Philadelphia and its surrounding areas, including New Jersey and Delaware County, face a stark reality: 40% of food produced goes to waste while 1 in 7 individuals experiences food insecurity. The initiative of food rescue heroes plays a crucial role in addressing this challenge.

Volunteering as a food rescue hero requires as little as 30 minutes of your time. Participants can collect surplus food that would otherwise go to waste and deliver it to nonprofits dedicated to assisting those in need.

By connecting to your social media accounts during the sign-up process, you can easily set your preferences for when and where you are available to engage in food rescues.

The platform notifies you when rescue opportunities arise, allowing you to opt for situations that align with your schedule. Whether you choose to rescue food on a daily or weekly basis, or simply want to try it out, the commitment is entirely flexible.

Participants receive detailed information regarding both the pick-up locations and the drop-off sites, ensuring guidance at every step of the process.

The app provides insights into the nonprofit organizations receiving the food, enabling rescuers to witness the direct impact of their efforts on alleviating hunger.

Sharing your experience is encouraged—take a selfie with your rescued items and post it on social media to raise awareness about Philly Food Rescue and motivate others to become involved.
